Valerie Ward — Counselling, Psychotherapy & Clinical Supervision
Taking that first step towards counselling can sometimes feel daunting, particularly when life feels overwhelming or you’re unsure where to begin. Finding someone you feel comfortable with, someone you can trust and talk openly to, is an important part of that journey.
People seek counselling and psychotherapy for many different reasons. You may be experiencing anxiety, stress, relationship difficulties, bereavement, painful life experiences, or perhaps you’re feeling stuck, unhappy or disconnected from yourself. Sometimes there isn’t an obvious reason; you simply know that something doesn’t feel quite right.
I have over 20 years’ experience as a psychotherapist and clinical supervisor, and throughout that time, one thing has remained central to my work: the importance of the relationship between therapist and client.
My approach is humanistic, person-centred and relational. I’m warm, approachable and down-to-earth, and I believe that meaningful therapeutic work begins when you feel genuinely heard, understood and accepted for who you are.
I offer a confidential, supportive and non-judgemental space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences at your own pace. There’s no pressure to talk about anything before you feel ready, or to arrive knowing exactly what you want from therapy.
I won’t tell you what to do or assume I know what’s best for you. Instead, we’ll work together, with honesty, compassion and curiosity, to make sense of what’s troubling you, explore patterns that may be affecting your life and discover possibilities for change.
Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working alongside people through many of life’s challenges. Everyone brings their own unique story, and I believe therapy should reflect your individual experiences, needs and hopes rather than follow a one-size-fits-all approach.
For me, therapy isn’t simply about addressing difficulties. It’s also an opportunity to deepen your understanding of yourself, recognise your strengths and develop greater confidence in finding a way forward that feels meaningful to you.
Above all, I hope that our work together offers you a relationship where you can be yourself, knowing you’ll be met with warmth, respect, honesty and genuine care.
